The Business Excellence Awards are back

As we fight our way out of the mire that has been the business environment for the last few years the Business Excellence Awards have been reinstated as a means of placing a marker in the sand to say “Business as [almost] normal”.

There are many good reasons for taking part in such schemes not least the publicity in terms of both potential customers and potential staff.  Others include:

  • Increased business opportunities
  • Extensive media exposure for their company and its products/services
  • A free and independent assessment by a panel of business experts
  • Employees that are motivated towards even greater success
  • The chance to benchmark their businesses against peers and competitors

Experience however suggests that the biggest boost is improved morale for existing staff.  As we come out of recession (hopefully) and the economy begins the long haul up to full speed many staff are currently worried about what has happened in the recent past but even more about what might happen in the future. Putting the business in for an award says to staff that the management think they have come through the worst and are looking at the future more hopefully.

Should you be the winner of course the boost is even greater.

Clearly some businesses are seeing life this way as the initial launch event held last night attracted many people to come and discuss with the judges and sponsors just what entering their business involves.  The event was held at the offices of BDO in Hatfield and will be followed by two more events around the region, HSBC are hosting the next one on 17 January at their Watford offices in Colonial Way.  The event will start at 4:30pm and if you would like to come along and discuss entering your business with the sponsors and judges then email mandy.cattigan@bdo.co.uk
